The Snow White Bristlenose Pleco or L144

 …is a rare and highly sought-after color variant of the Ancistrus species, prized for its striking solid white to translucent appearance. Unlike common plecos that grow very large, this variety stays small—typically reaching 4 to 6 inches, making it ideal for 20–40 gallon aquariums. It is a selectively bred, tank-raised fish, often mislabeled as L144; the true L144 may not exist in captivity, but the name persists for this leucistic or albino-like variant.

It is primarily nocturnal but becomes active during the day once acclimated. While it eats algae—especially as a juvenile—its diet should include:

  • Algae wafers and sinking pellets

  • Blanched vegetables (zucchini, cucumber, spinach)

  • Occasional protein (e.g., bloodworms) in moderation

  • Driftwood should be provided to aid digestion and mimic natural grazing behavior.

Juveniles now, these fish will mature and grow out in color and size after you have received them. Our pictures try to represent both our Sire and females of different ages to show how they may mature over time.

Your fish were born and raised with extreme care by Good Life Aquatics right here in the USA. They live in pure PNW well water with a PH of 7.6, TDS 250. Their diet consists of specialty high quality fish food from Ark BioRite as well as fresh organic vegetables.

All young are birthed into their own species only aquarium. All of our tanks have sand bottoms, matten filters, and are home to live plants. This includes our thriving Guppy Grass and Java Fern.
